New Zealand Hills Abstracts

Well they are not true abstracts but they are pushing the 2013 New Zealand Hills landscape exhibition works towards the abstract end of the scale for the sixty-something works included in that show. This was a deliberate conversation with the viewers to pull them out of reading all the works as misty, romantic and representation paintings. With these ones you need to address the mark making.

All the works in they exhibition were painted over numerous sessions in layers of oil paint glazes. With these ones, brighter colours of the underpainting are exposed by scraping and sanding back the top layers.
