Landscape Exhibition: In Time, I Recall

I'm pleased to say that I have an opportunity to exhibit some of my recent oil paintings from the 2013 and 2014 shows, and also some new works not yet exhibited, at the Art2Muse Gallery in Double Bay.

The exhibition runs from 29 April to 12 May, with the launch at 6pm on Thursday 1 May at the Art2Muse Gallery, 357 New South Head Road, Double Bay.

It would be great to catch up with you at the launch. I'm looking forward to seeing the landscape themes from the last two year's work recombined into a new show.

Field Colour Painting Selected as Finalist in 2013 Fleurieu Art Prize

I'm thrilled to say my new painting titled Field Colour has been selected, from over 1200 works from around the world, as a finalist in the 2013 Fleurieu Art Prize. The winner of the $60,000 prize will be announced at a Cocktail Party on Saturday 26 October 2013 at the wineries of the Fleurieu Peninsula, South Australia.

Field Colour Painting

The painting contains a grid of nine 200mm square canvas stretchers. It plays in a tension between the joy of two-dimensional paint on canvas, and the compulsion to imbue those marks with a representational depth. It positions the visual shimmer of a Rothko Color Field, in the dimensional world of a landscape... ...wish me luck.

Exhibition - Landscape Oil Paintings

I'm having an exhibition of new landscape paintings at the Queen Street gallery in Woollahra. Opening 6-8pm on Tuesday 19 February 2013

These are small oil paintings based on the New Zealand hills. They range in style from somewhat representational through to works with more abstract marks and thicker application of the paint. The oil on canvas paintings are built up with multiple layers and glazes in a traditional oil painting method. Gestural drawing using charcoal and graphite is also worked into the wet paint. The canvases are all 200mm square and are finished in ornate frames crafted especially for the exhibition.

Sanctuary Studio Cafe

The cafe used to be at 175 Campbell Street in Surry Hills, Sydney, Australia. It's been knocked down now. A shame, it was a great old building and the Cafe had a good feel about it. I had an art exhibition there and it was quite an event at the time... The cafe was setup by Herman who had an architecture business up stairs and the cafe below. All things must pass, as Mr Harrison said. It was great while it lasted...

L'otel

L'otel used to be a small French provincial style hotel, bar and dining room in Darlinghurst, Sydney, Australia. Years ago it was run by Yvonne and Eli' and a friend and I held the first art exhibition they had there. It was a good space back then and I had a few other exhibitions there over the years. The place changed hands and style a few times after Yvonne and Eli' left and now and the wall space doesn't work for exhibitions.

Baby Enzo

Baby Enzo business card

Baby Enzo - Cafe - Bar - Dining Room - it was in Oxford Street, Paddington, Sydney. Years earlier it was just called Enzo, it had strong art exhibitions in the '80s and was one of the early gay bars in Sydney. It lapsed for some while before Kiran Moraryie set up Baby Enzo. We held he first art exhibition Baby Enzo had and called it Naked. After the exhibition I took a room upstairs as an art studio for a while. It was a great space with French doors looking out over the back of Paddington. Baby Enzo shut down after a while and Kiran headed off overseas on a mission. The building is now back to being a hair salon.
